Primex Staff Enjoy a Day of Racing at Croft Circuit

Primex Plastics Limited staff and their families enjoyed a fantastic day out at Croft Circuit on September 6th, supporting our sponsored driver, Max Coates, as he competed at the legendary North Yorkshire circuit. The annual event formed part of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) weekend, providing an exciting day of motorsport, hospitality and the opportunity for colleagues and their families to spend time together away from the workplace.

This year saw our biggest group yet, with more than 120 guests made up of members of the Primex team and their families attending to cheer Max on. Despite the fantastic support from the Primex team, it was a challenging weekend on the track for Max. Changing and unpredictable weather conditions contributed to a couple of incidents that ultimately prevented him from achieving the podium finishes he had been hoping for.

Max reflected on the weekend:

“Croft is always such a special weekend, with lots of friends and family coming along to support me, not least a great turnout from Primex Plastics Limited. After 13 years of partnership, we have become accustomed to hosting Primex’s staff day at the BTCC and Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Croft. This year was no exception, and it was the largest group — over 120 from Primex — to date. I also think it was the best yet. Our double Tipi setup rivalled the best hospitality venues at the event, ensuring Primex’s staff had a great vantage point to watch the racing, as well as enjoy great food and great company from fellow employees. Our garage tour was well attended, with the awning bursting at the seams hosting all our guests. I hope everyone learnt something that helped them understand and enjoy the racing even more.”

A challenging weekend on track

While the weekend was a great success for the Primex team and guests, the racing itself proved more difficult for Max than anticipated. After producing his best-ever qualifying lap at Croft to secure a front-row starting position, expectations were high for a strong result. Unfortunately, conditions played their part. A spin during the wet first race left Max well down the order and meant he had to start the second race from the back of the grid. Despite making an excellent start and gaining several positions, contact with a tyre stack resulted in damage to his splitter, limiting his progress for the remainder of the race.

Max added:

“It was a really disappointing pair of races, especially after putting my best ever lap together in qualifying to start on the front row. I expected and hoped we’d be on the podium in both races.”

Despite the disappointment on track, Max was keen to recognise the efforts of his wider team in creating an exceptional experience for Primex guests.

“My commercial team did a fantastic job throughout the weekend to ensure the best possible guest experience. I really appreciate their efforts in making the hospitality this year quite exceptional.”

Bringing the Primex team together

At Primex, we place great value on supporting our colleagues and their families. Events such as the Croft Circuit staff day provide an opportunity for everyone to step away from the day-to-day demands of the workplace, spend time together and strengthen relationships across the wider Primex team. This is particularly important during what has been a busy but challenging period for the plastics industry, with unprecedented price increases and ongoing economic pressures driven in part by international conflicts and wider global uncertainty.

Despite the challenges, it was fantastic to see so many colleagues and their families come together to enjoy a day of racing, good food and great company. We would like to thank Max and his team for another memorable Croft weekend and congratulate everyone involved in making the event such a success.
